Mike |
First we have my husband Mike, who became my husband on September 26, 2004. I still haven’t gotten used to the idea of calling him husband yet! We met in 2002 at M.I.T. where he was finishing up his PhD in EE. We played ice hockey together and I spent many months crying into his shirt over my previous boyfriend before I came to the sudden realization that the perfect man had just fallen into my lap (or I had fallen into his, as the case may be) and I was absolutely beating a dead horse with this crying business. Since then we have been delightfully happy, aside from a good livening brawl once in a while. He recently became a Christian and is a pillar of support and encouragement to me, a natural pessimist. My joy in him is complete. |

My adorable baby was born in Zürich’s Triemlispital on December 8th, 2009 at 11.58 in the morning, coming in at 3.4kg and 50cm, after a ridiculously short labor (think: that taxi driver has no idea what a close call he had). Adjusting to life with an infant is very interesting — none of the three of us have much of any idea what we’re doing! But it’s certainly an adventure. |
![]() Dad |
My dad does not actually exist. He used to call me once a year, when he was sure I would not be available, and leave a message telling me how much he wished I’d call him back and how he knew what a rotten father he was, and then make sure not to pick up when I called back. Or, if he had the misfortune to pick up by mistake, he would immediately hang up after swearing to call back in an hour. He is responsible for the existence of my three half-brothers, only one of whom I have had the opportunity to meet. Now that I have permanently left the States I doubt I will ever see him or hear his voice again. |
![]() Mom |
My mother has been doing brilliantly since she managed to get rid of my father in 2002. She graduated from M.I.T. with a degree in Mathematics in the 60′s, went onto the Sloan School of Buisiness, and then bopped around working for several management consulting firms all the time I was growing up. When I was in my teens she came back to look after Anne and Will and since then has been at home, managing my little sister and brother’s affairs and studying the Bible, among other things. She recently got a degree in Education from Harvard and has just finished her first full year teaching. |
![]() Christy |
My sister Christy was always my ally and companion when we were growing up under very dubious and often unpleasant circumstances. She was irreverent and goofy and we got into endless mischief which often ended up in hard smacks. She is a musician and a composer; I am her web developer and otherwise entire tech team. She just finished up her degree at Princeton University after taking a few years off, and is now in Paris at La Sorbonne. |
![]() Anne |
My little sister (6 years younger) is my doppleganger in all ways but one… she actually KNOWS what she wants to do with her life; that is, become an equine vet. She recently graduated from Cornell University and is in the process of applying to vet school. She is perhaps the only person in the whole world that I can look at and read her mind in an instant while knowing she’s reading mine. |
![]() Will |
My little brother (8 years younger) is my doppelganger in no ways except one… and that is he *doesn’t* know what he wants to do with his life, at least, he didn’t last time I asked! It makes me feel a bit better that there is someone else that is as much a drifter as I in this family of great and terrible talents. He did a couple years at University of Southern California before doing a year abroad at the London School of Economics. He’s just started a small business (I’m his web developer person too, tee hee) and is hoping on staying in London for a while. |
