So I’m looking for a martial art.

I already have tried karate and tae kwon do and I nix both of those. I had fun doing Krav Maga (not technically a martial art I think) but it wasn’t active enough for me. The best thing I’ve ever done is Muay Thai kickboxing, in San Diego, but there aren’t many places around here – one in Somerville and one in Revere, both of which are very inconvenient to where I live and work.

So… while I continue to search for a kickboxing place (I want *real* kickboxing, not this girlie kickboxing/dance/aerobics crap), can anyone else recommend a good martial art for me? My main objective is that it be violently physical. I need really extreme, exhausting, fall-over-dead, vigorous physical activity to be a happy person. So none of this stances/katas/mental masturbation stuff.

Sorry if I’ve offended anyone’s delicate sensibilities ;-)

    On the unusual side….

    This might not be exactly what you are looking for, but two that I’ve done were medieval sword fighting…(one is like fencing, the other is more broad sword-ish) But starting out in both of those stress form at first (mostly from a safety point of view, with a lot of slow 1/4 or 1/2 speed work) but once you get into it, they can get pretty exhausting, and leave a number of brusies…. Nothing “girlie” about either but especially the “heavy list” full armored side… But the tournement matches are all usually held at costumed medieval day events….

    ha! that’s exactly what i look for when i’m looking for a martial art – none of this wax on/wax off crap – i want to learn how to do violence… NOW.

    I used to take kickboxing at Boston Kung Fu/Tai Chi – above Urban Outfitters at the end of Newbury St. it was a great class…

    you’re in brookline now, right? do they teach anything else at that Brookline Tai Chi place on Beacon St.?

    Krav Maga

    I’m surprised you think of Krav Maga as not “active” enough – the usual training already should be quite demanding, but there are sparring/fighting classes in KM in addition, which will exhaust a lot… do you know http://www.kravmagasd.com/ ?
